Tea Party brand: small government patriots. Tea Party reality: xenophobic, racist

It's been said many times that successful political campaigns, like successful ad campaigns, are about branding. The newest brand on the political scene, one that scored an impressive victory last November, was the Tea Party, which supposedly stood for Taxed Enough Already. Funnily enough it sprouted up just moments after the inauguration of the first black U.S. President.

Now that the horror of the assination attempt on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (and the murder of six others) in Tucson has marinated for a few days, the heat is being turned up on those who have used "gun rhetoric" to murder (or rather, vote out of office) liberal politicians.
